I feel like Disney is very good at a very specific aspect of their games. They are kid friendly in both game play and aesthetics, yet challenging enough for adults. Disney’s Mittens is no different. They’ve done it quite well again, save for one gripe. I’ll save that for later.
Mittens is a very approachable game with easy to understand objects. Get the cat from point A to point B with the help of certain game mechanics placed along the way. In the beginning it’s window canopies. Some you leave untouched others you cut with a slice of your finger. Then it goes to cutting wood and having someone open their window and then roller coasters and birds and…well you get the point. New chapters bring new backgrounds, new obstacles, and new “stories,” though I’d just call them different excuses to move the cat around. All in all it’s a pretty well thought out game and quite polished.
Here’s the one problem…I just don’t really enjoy it. Like I said it’s a fine game, but here is my issue. In order to make the game more challenging for adults you have the added objective of collecting 3 diamonds along the way. At first it was so easy to get them that you didn’t even really need to diverge from the original path, but as time and levels passed by it got more difficult. Not a LOT more difficult but still more difficult. And it should! Of course it should, that’s how a game works. But for some reason, I lost the feeling of this being a fun challenging game and it kinda just got annoying. If I missed a diamond it kinda felt like too much work to go back and get it. So I didn’t. A really good game doesn’t make you feel like that.
I’ll be honest, I’m completely open to other feelings on this game. If you have something to say about it or would like to try it, please let us know what you think in the comments below. I’d love to hear your thoughts!
